How long form reading and project-based learning are helpful for the holistic development of school students. As per the New Education Policy 2020 in India, what are the steps we have taken to reduce the burden of bags?

Education today emphasises understanding and application rather than memorisation.

At Ankur Public School, long-form reading and project-based learning play a significant role in ensuring holistic development, in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy.

Long-form reading encourages students to engage deeply with texts. It enhances comprehension, vocabulary, imagination, and critical thinking skills. When learners read extended passages, they develop patience and concentration, which are essential for meaningful academic growth.

Project-based learning connects classroom knowledge with practical experiences. Students collaborate, research, and present their findings, which strengthens teamwork and analytical abilities. This approach fosters creativity and problem-solving while making learning enjoyable and relevant.

In accordance with the National Education Policy, steps have been taken to reduce the burden of school bags. Integrated subject planning, use of digital resources, activity-based worksheets, and well-structured timetables help minimize the need for multiple heavy textbooks. Homework is designed thoughtfully to focus on conceptual clarity instead of repetitive writing. A government-mandated Bagless Day every month is also observed as Talent Day in our school where we try and uncover students’ talents by providing them an open mic and a structured stage time.
